Yes. PECB certifications are internationally accredited by ANAB and recognised in over 150 countries, including South Africa. As AI governance and cybersecurity frameworks based on ISO standards become more widely adopted by South African regulators and private sector organisations, the relevance and demand for these credentials is growing rapidly here.
Not necessarily. Foundation-level certifications are designed for anyone who works with or around AI and cybersecurity — including managers, compliance officers, auditors, and executives. Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor levels do benefit from some prior exposure to the relevant standard, but technical coding or engineering skills are not required. We can advise which level is right for your background.
A certificate of attendance confirms you were present for training. A certification confirms you passed a rigorous exam and demonstrated competence against an internationally defined standard. PECB certifications are the latter — they require passing a proctored examination, making them meaningful proof of ability that employers and regulators trust.
Training ranges from 2 days (Foundation) to 5 days (Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor). The examination is typically taken on the final day of training or shortly after. Once you pass, you apply for the credential through PECB's certification portal. The entire process from training to certified status can be completed within a few weeks.

Updated in 2022, it now covers information security, cybersecurity, and privacy protection across four themes: organisational, people, physical, and technological controls.
